Tactile Paving Stones

The function of tactile paving stones is to provide unambiguous sensorial information to people with blindness or major visual or cognitive deficiencies.

Order VIV/561/2010, of February 1, which develops the technical paper of basic conditions for accessibility and non-discrimination in access to and use of urbanized public spaces, establishes the criteria for the placement of tactile paving stones.

TACTILE WARNING

  • Identifies risks and gives warnings.
  • The buttons on the “Tactile Warning” piece make it easy to identify kerbs and intersections.
  • It helps pedestrians identify potential risks and warns them to proceed with caution.

TACTILE CROSSING

  • A guiding paving stone. Steps to follow.
  • The raised longitudinal bands of the “Tactile Crossing” piece offer people with blindness or vision problems a physical alert.
  • can be used in public spaces as a directional guide to help pedestrians avoid hazards and obstructions, and to identify crossing points in transit areas.
  • The bands on the surface indicate which way to go.
