Dropped kerbs and kerbs
This is a prismatic shaped mass with a cross section determined by the use of different types of exterior surfaces.
These are areas whose structures are altered by means of inclined planes wich connect different levels. They are divided into pedestrian and vehicle passing places.
Steps comprise a sequence of treads and rises with the right proportions between them to make it easy for a pedestrian to pass. Gutters and pipes are used for construction or channelling surface water through a pot-hole.
Order VIV/561/2010, of February 1, which develops the technical paper of basic conditions for accessibility and non-discrimination in access to and use of urbanized public spaces, establishes the criteria for the placement of dropped kerbs.
It is mandatory to include a strip of 80 cm wide directional tactile paving between the line that physically marks the limit between the built surface and the start of the pedestrian path. A 60 cm strip of blister tactile paving will be placed on the pedestrian path along the line where the pedestrian path and the road meet.
